What DOES "Prevent, Correct and Protect, our skincare philosophy..." Mean?

Prevent, Correct and Protect, our skincare philosophy ....  (what does it mean?)

Prevent, Correct and Protect is a simple and effective skin care program designed for all skin types utilizing 3 core products:

Prevent :
Prevent products are ones that contain vitamin c (topical).  Vitamin C must be able to get into the skin (stable and formulated accurately to actually get into the skin).  There are many Vitamin C products on the market today, however many of the products sold today are ineffective and do not actually get "into" the skin.  When looking for a Vitamin C that is effective and indicated to get into the skin to actually prevent the damage from occurring are few and far between, Skin Medica makes a terrific Vitamin C that prevents future damage from this day forward.  When purchasing a Vitamin C one must make sure the product is backed by science and will do what it is actually indicated to do.

Correct:
Retinol is ideal for correcting and restoring the skin.  One must look at adding a Retinol into your core skincare products at the age of 30.  Retinol is ideal for stimulating collagen and helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles (over time)  When one uses Retinol in a skin care regime once or twice a week one will achieve a correction of the skin envelope and overall texture.  Skin Medica makes an elegant, easy to use, non-irritating Retinol.  The same holds true as with Vitamin C, make sure that the products one is purchasing is backed by science and is indicated to correct.  When one uses Retinol (or any product for that matter) one must wear sun-screen.

Protect:
Sunscreen, Sunscreen and Sunscreen.  Sunscreen is the most important piece of one's skincare regime.  Without sunscreen, prevent and correct are a waste of time and money.  Sunscreen needs to contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.  The SPF is important only if one is washing, swimming or sweating the sunscreen off.  The SPF stands for sun protection factor, whatever the # of SPF one times by 10min and that is how long one may stay out in the sun before a reapplication is necessary.  Today sunscreens are cosmetically elegant and easy to use.  One does not have to worry about looking "white or pasty".  The absolute best product one can invest in is sunscreen.  Skin Medica makes a number of sunscreens that are elegant and one is compliant because the product does not feel like a "sunscreen".

Laser Hair Removal

Why is this so popular for both men and women?

The normal pattern of hair growth for men and women is highly variable, and ideals of beauty change over time.

Currently, the trend toward less hair is common in the Western world.  Why laser hair removal?  Mostly it is a convenience issue, but there are additional benefits.  Frequent shaving of the hair-covered areas of the body will often lead to sebaceous cysts, which will occasionally get infected, and may ultimately scar.  Permanent removal of the hair will prevent that from happening.

Permanent destruction of the hair follicle will result in complete removal of eveidence of hair, i.e., there will be no black spots where the hair follicles are growing.  For most people, this translates into a completely clean visual surface of the skin, withot any evidence of hair being present.  No stubble and no black dots.

For most people, this is ideal.  How long does this process take?

Unfortunately, it depends on the individual.  The only hair follicles that are destroyed with laser hair removal are those that are actively growing.

There are many hair follicles that are in the resting phase at the time of  the treatment, and until they start to grow hair, they cannot  be targeted by the laser.  For most people this means it can take a few treatments for complete hair removal.  Most treatments for laser hair removal can take 6-8 sessions.

Here at innovative skin solutions, we have the newest light- based platform for the treating hair removal, the Palomar ICON, which will often reduce the number of treatments by 1-2 sessions, getting our patients where they want to be much faster.
